Who doesn’t like a good Scotch, the 00krew certainly does. Originally made with malt barley, scotch must be aged a minimum of three years in a oak barrel and must be distilled in Scotland. In the late 1700′s commercial distilleries started using wheat and rye.
There are 5 catagories of Scotch – Single Malt, Single Grain,Blended Malt, Blended Grain,Blended Scotch Whisky. For this go around the 00krew went with 3 single malt’s – Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, The Balvenie.
- Light in color, Whisky smell, Good oak flavor, slight burn on the way down doesn’t last long. Not the smoothest of the three, but not bad. Glenmorangie overall is not bad, about $40.
- Medium in color, a heavier and sweeter smell than Glenmorangie. Has a nice heavy oak taste and a slight burn that goes away quickly. Very smooth with a good oak flavor.Overall,Glenfiddich is very good and smooth, about $45.
- Dark in color. Very aromatic. Thick oak smell and taste. The Balvenie has alot of body and very little burn. Very smooth. Overall, the Balvenie is very, very good. About $55.
After exhausting hours of testing, the 00krew picked The Balvenie as the best of the bunch. You won’t be disappointed with this choice.
